Free download FileHippo.A life-long Brooklynite (either Queens or Nassau), I wrote for more than a decade about urban issues and culture, following the places that mattered: The Bronx, Harlem, and Brooklyn's communities of color. I worked for the excellent public radio station WNYC as a news intern, and spent two years as an editor at Wired News and AOL CityTalk (the last being the time I pitched to and worked with Bill O’Reilly, another of my great journalism dreams come true). Photo: Technorati / Open Clip Art Library / Getty For the past couple of years, I have worked as a freelance writer and editor, editing everything from local and ethnic-minority-focused blogs to the New York Post. I am happiest writing about journalism, local politics, and the smaller aspects of city life that tend to be overlooked by most New Yorkers. In February 2012, I decided to leave New York City and start a new life in the country. I soon moved to northwestern Connecticut, where I am in a promising doctoral program at the University of Connecticut, and working (not). I have been publishing, on my own blog and on other sites, since 2005. This blog is probably my most trafficked; it’s where I share more personal and less laborious writing, or where I report on my writing projects. I continue to be on the lookout for projects in the local and/or ethnic-minority-focused media. It’s a rare find, and a worthwhile one. We need more people like you. Previously, I was an assistant news editor and reporter at The Philadelphia Enquirer, and I served for a semester as a production associate at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. In my college and post-college career as a journalist, I was inspired by three individuals: In February 2003, I worked as a production assistant at a public access station in Philadelphia. I freelanced for WFMU in the third grade and occasionally in high school. In college and graduate school, I was exposed to publications like National Public Radio and the Village Voice and that helped me decide to be a journalist. After college, I moved to New York City where I worked for two years as a reporter 648931e174
